A breeding herd raised for beef, with milk going to a local parlour.
How this farm started
My gift for passing grade twelve was a cow. I had been hoping for a video game.
Years later I understood what my father had actually given me. Through university I kept buying and selling cattle, and the herd grew slowly. He had always grown something himself, from a small backyard in Kabwe to farmland he worked with his siblings, and he pulled other people up the ladder as he climbed. Two oxen here, a piece of land there, a cow there.
In 2022 I went looking for land of my own and found it deep in the rural part of Kantupu, Kapiri District. We settled, and we are proud to call it the home of Makomena Farms. We still keep our presence at the family farm in Monze.
We love to till the land, to see plants grow, to tend a crop, to farm mindfully. We are only at the beginning, and we are glad to share the journey.
